who we are

The Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel, built in 1927, is a result of a request made by Sunday school children in 1924 to have a post chapel. Permission to build was granted by the War Department to the Garrison Commander at Fort Snelling.

Every Sunday at 11:00 a.m., a non-denominational worship service is held in the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel (Hwys 5 & 55 … just follow historic signs). The worship service, sponsored by the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation, is formatted to appeal to persons of all Christian faiths. Each Sunday service is followed by a time of fellowship and refreshments in the fellowship hall (chapel basement) … prepared by the Chapel Friends. DVDs are available by order; place your order in the Fellowship Hall after the service or call the office (651) 286-7296.

Special music is provided each Sunday by excellent choirs and guest soloists from various schools, colleges and churches from around the State.

Because of its unique emphasis on remembering the veteran, several special services are held throughout the year, on the Sunday nearest the holiday, including: Four-Chaplains Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, POW/MIA Remembrance, Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Day.

Additionally, we celebrate other holidays such as: New Year’s, Good Friday, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Labor Day, All-Saints Day, Worldwide Communion, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve.

Seating is limited at our special observances. Early attendance is recommended. Parking spaces are available. A shuttle service from remote parking areas is provided weekly.

The chapel is handicap accessible. An elevator is available for access to all levels of the facility. Hearing devices are available at all worship services.

Holy Communion is offered periodically (refer to Snelling Spirit Newsletter) and is open for all to receive as a sacramental gift from God. The communion elements (wafer and wine/grape juice) can be received either seated in the pew or kneeling at the altar rail.

If you are in need of pastoral care or desiring to have Chaplain Beale officiate at a wedding, you can contact him at (612) 747-1059.
